Jim Tiehen Biography
Jim Tiehen, Owner and President of THE TIEHEN GROUP has been in Commercial Real Estate for over thirty years. Jim is one of a few people in the real estate profession to hold both Certified Property Manager (CPM) and Certified Commercial Investment Member (CCIM) designations. Jim obtained his CCIM designation in 1987. The CCIM is recognized as the best in the business - an expert in the disciplines of commercial property development, brokerage, and investment analysis. Jim received his CPM from the Institute of Real Estate Management in April, 1993. CPM members are trained in depth to analyze a propertys physical and fiscal performance and implement policies and procedures to enhance short-term and long-range property value. Jim has an extensive background in management, brokerage, and renovation of commercial real estate. He has been responsible for successfully negotiating over $90 million in real estate transactions.
A native of Kansas City, Missouri, Jim graduated with honors from Rockhurst University with a degree in Business. He worked at Rockhurst University as Associate Alumni Director for two years before entering the real estate profession. He was a salesman with W.R. Hartman Company where, after three years, he became a partner and half-owner of the company, which was then renamed Hartman/Tiehen Realtors, Inc. The company was noted for its expertise in the management, renovation and sales of multi-family and office buildings in the Plaza-Westport area. The operation expanded in 1985 to include development of multi-family housing.
In 1987, Jim formed the Jury-Tiehen, Inc. Commercial Real Estate firm, a full service commercial real estate firm specializing in property management, leasing and sales of small to medium size properties throughout the states of Kansas and Missouri. Jim served the firm as President and Administrator. The company employed over 100 people and handled retail, office and multi-family properties.
THE TIEHEN GROUP, INC. was established in 1995 to assist property owners and investors in the acquisition, renovation, management and disposition of income-producing real estate. The firm offers unique hands-on real estate services for homes associations, condominiums, office buildings, retail strip centers, and apartment communities.
As President of The Tiehen Group, Inc., Jim Tiehen currently oversees more than 100 properties. These properties consist of over 1,500 apartment units, fifty homeowner/condominium associations comprised collectively of 6,000 units and 500,000 square feet of office buildings.
Community service involvement is a must for Jim. He served on the executive committee for the Kansas City Chapter of Institute of Real Estate Management. Jim is past President of Johnson County Commercial Investment Division of the Johnson County Board of Realtors. He is past president of the Kansas City CCIM Chapter. Jim served as a consultant for the Kansas City Housing Authority. He also graduated from CENTURIONS, a two year leadership training program sponsored by the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce. Jim is actively involved in his church serving as chairman for building and grounds, past president of the Mens Club and is an Eucharistic Minister. Jim has recently been appointed on the Board of Regents for Rockhurst University.
